Prayer Apparel

We invite you to donate $50 to $100 for a Hummingbird item and to regard it as a Prayer garment for the Water.

Note that we are working with our local eco-friendly printers, with heat-transfer technology that allows us to order idiosyncratically in small batches (no silk-screen set-up means print-runs can be relatively small).

We have printed on T-shirts, on sarongs, and on a variety of ceremonial cloths. We have done print-runs on donated organic wovens & knits. We may only have small quantities of some things, and others, such as T-shirts, we can order in unlimited quantities (2-3 weeks lead time). Talk to us and tell us what you are looking for.. and quantities desired. We can give a special price upon request for T-shirt orders of 6 or more.

(or.. how we found the means and Will to make the leap)

A $2.99 little yellow rubber duck, a bath toy, comes with a dire warning: Toxic chemicals in that sweet, squishy body have been known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.

“What kind of society would make something like this to put in the mouths of children?”
asks Bill McDonough.

McDonough, as a young architect, was approached by survivors of the Jewish holocaust to build them a memorial. He said he would first have to visit Auzwitz. Standing in the gas chamber designed to destroy human beings, he had an epiphany that set his life path: design is the first signal of human intent. He realized that everything we design is on a spectrum of supporting/enhancing…undermining/destroying…; life itself.

Informing his design adventures ever since has been the question his Auzwitz epiphany distilled: “How do we love all the children of all species for all time?” From this question comes:

• design humility
• cradle to cradle – with goods returned to the soil or back to the manufacturer in a continuous loop of creation and recycle

And so we took to heart this touchstone:

“Design is the first signal of human intention. What is your intention?”

Our Hummingbird intention is profound healing for Mother Earth

Therefore our Hummingbird fundraiser t-shirt breaks the tyranny of business-as-usual:

To the very best of our ability and current knowledge, we have brought home to ourselves the accepted norm: ‘externalized costs’;

Externalized cost: the technical term for shunting the cost of production to soil, water, air, people, animals; living systems. When the bottom line is only measured in money, the living planet bears the true cost.

Our Hummingbird fundraiser t-shirt comes free from phthalate, PVC, apeo, formaldehyde and heavy metals. The cotton we used did not contaminate the waterways, deplete the soil, or compromise the respiratory systems of the people who live, work and raise their children around these crops (big agri-business cotton and coffee have the highest externalized cost).

From growing to sewing to printing our design (eco-friendly heat transfer technology), we have measured production against our primary intention.
